It is one of a significant spectacular shrine in Gwalior dedicated to the holy Sun God. constructed by the famous industrialist Ghanshyam Das Birla. The temple construction was completed in 1988, the construction took almost four years and four days. Gwalior Sun Temple has almost the same basic architecture just like a legendary Konark Sun Temple, Puri, Orissa. The temple is constructed by red sandstone and pearly white marble. Sun temple is situated in the middle of the Garden and initially, the name of the garden was Tapovan Garden but after the completion, the name of the garden changed to Surya Van or Surya Garden. 
In terms of architecture, the temple looks like a chariot pulled by seven horses, four horses on one side and three horses on another side of the temple with 24 wheels, the seven horses symbolize or represent the seven days of a week and the 24 wheels signify the 24 hours of a day in which 12 wheels reveals day time and the 12 wheels shows the night. in and around the temple there are 365 statues of gods that symbolizes the 365 days of a year. the exterior of the temple is constructed by red stone and the interior of the temple is constructed by embellishes white marble uniting attraction to its appeal. In the garbhagriha, the idol of Lord Surya is in padmasana. On the three sides of the temple, lord Bharama, Lord Vishnu and Lord Maheswara are located in open Mandapa of the temple. On the top of the garbhigrah or on the Shikhar of the temple there are some small tunnels so that the sunlight directly falls on the statue of Lord Surya. The temple has seven Stamb/pillars. At the entrance gate, there are two statues located of Ghanshyam Das Birla and his wife Maheshwari Devi in a namaskar position towards garbhigrah. this place will surely fill you with a sense of calm..
